This week WDP held a drug, alcohol and tobacco awareness stall in support of a wider health and wellbeing event within a City insurance company. The event provided information and advice to employees about the harms of drinking above the government’s recommended alcohol unit intake, and gave advice on reducing cigarette consumption. Participants were asked to walk a straight line while wearing various day and night time beer goggles, mimicking the effects of consuming alcohol in terms of loss of balance and impaired vision, highlighting vulnerabilities. Other interactive activities involved estimating correct alcohol unit measurements, using coloured water and containers. The interactive nature of the event allowed WDP’s Jim Mummery to answer individuals’ questions around their tobacco, drugs and alcohol concerns. The stall highlighted the wide variety of nicotine replacement therapy available, and offered the support of WDP’s smoking cessation clinics within the City of London.
